Have you been too busy heeding the advice of other leaders, gurus, and influencers that you’ve forgotten what you really wanted for your business? Or have you been doing everything they said but you’re still not getting the results you wanted?

Trying to chase every new fad or every best practice to come on the scene is like riding a neverending roller coaster. Don’t get so caught up in playing the role you think you have to play that you end up losing more and more of who you are in the process.

Here are steps to discovering what it is that you really want in your business:

  1. Look inward.

We have the tendency to spend more time analyzing and dissecting what other people did and are doing that we neglect to look inward – at what we want and what we know might get us results.

  1. Chase slower.

You don’t have to burn yourself out doing what everybody told you to do. Slow down and be intentional about what you want to say or do.

  1. Say what you really want.

Really dig into what you want to say and how you want to say it.

  1. Be who you are.

Figure out how you want to show up, not how you’re expected to show up. When you show up as who you are, you don’t have to follow some guru’s guidance of what you should do.

  1. Test and see what works for you.

Test, try new things, and take action. You won’t know what you like if you don’t try new things in your business. Try a new format and see not only if you like it, but if your customers like it too.

  1. You can always change course, no matter where you are in your journey.

It’s not uncommon to climb the mountain, reach the top and realize you have climbed the wrong mountain. So any time a decision doesn’t sit well with what you want to build, make pivots and changes regardless of how the gurus or influencers would advise you.
